Why Erbium:YAG Lasers Offer Better Results for Skin Resurfacing Than CO2 Lasers

1. An Erbium:YAG laser wavelength is optimal for skin ablation.
Erbium:YAG lasers have a very efficient beam to target water and relatively limited hemoglobin absorption. The 2,940nm unique wavelength of Erbium:YAG delivers an almost instant skin ablation while limiting heat damage in the surrounding area.
This thermal damage is the biggest difference between Erbium:YAG and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) lasers. Because the absorption in skin tissue is relatively low in CO2 lasers compared to Erbium: YAG lasers (in both water and hemoglobin), their result is substantial excess heat in the surrounding tissue. The consequences of that are localized tissue death, more post-treatment discomfort, and greater instances of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH, dark spots) in CO2 lasers.
2. Erbium:YAG laser treatments create less thermal damage and are less painful.
Thanks to the greatly limited thermal effects of Erbium lasers, Erbium:YAG treatments are notably less painful than CO2 lasers, and patients do not require any anesthesia when receiving treatment for small lesions. These safety features make Erbium:YAG lasers the superior choice for treating delicate areas such as the periorbital region, neck, chest, and hands.
3. Erbium:YAG laser treatments have a lower risk of side effects, including hyperpigmentation and/or skin bleaching, compared to CO2 treatments.
Hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation are mainly due to thermal damage. Because the absorption in skin tissue is relatively low in CO2 lasers compared to Erbium: YAG lasers (in both water and hemoglobin), their result is substantial excess heat in the surrounding tissue. Excessive heating in surrounding tissues can result in either skin darkening (hyperpigmentation) or skin bleaching (hypopigmentation), which more likely can be a side effect of CO2 lasers.
4. Erbium:YAG treatments require a shorter recovery time compared to CO2 lasers.
Erbium:YAG lasers require a shorter recovery time compared to CO2 lasers because of the shallow depths of wounds they create. Furthermore, Erbium:YAG lasers deliver reduced thermal damage to the surrounding skin tissue, allowing for much faster healing compared to the deeper injuries and extensive thermal damage that CO2 lasers produce.
Our clinic has the latest Erbium:YAG laser – the Fotona TimeWalker. It is a versatile laser with combination Nd:YAG and Erbium:YAG platforms to treat a wide array of skin problems such as Deep Scars, Wrinkles and Sagging Skin, Active Acne, Rosacea and more.

NEW TREATMENT FEATURE: LIPLASE by Fotona TimeWalker – Revolutionary Lip Lightening and Lip Plumping Treatment without Downtime & Injections!

WHAT IS LIPLASE?
LipLase is a non-surgical and non-invasive laser lip treatment. It enhances the lips by creating more volume through collagen and elastin production within the lips. It also lightens dark lips through its skin renewal properties. It can also help define lip shape by enhancing the cupid’s bow. It uses laser energy, creating a more natural-looking result than a dermal filler, which can sometimes give you “duck lips!”
The LipLase procedure targets a more natural way of providing you fuller lips by enhancing your body’s own collagen production to achieve fuller, more voluminous defined natural lips. It has minimal to no side effects since it only uses heat laser energy to stimulate the regeneration of your collagen, making it a safer procedure. The procedure will make you feel some heat around your lips while it is being done but that fades after the procedure is over.
HOW DOES LIPLASE WORK?
LipLase is done from the inside of the mouth and the outer area as well. There is no needle involved, which makes the procedure, a comfortable experience. It poses no bruising or other adverse effects, and neither does it have any downtime recovery. The laser energy on LipLase utilizes its heat, targeting the deepest layers of the skin to stimulate the increased production of the collagen.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM THE TREATMENT?
Each session of LipLase treatments takes less than 30 minutes. No anesthesia or numbing agents are necessary because the procedure is virtually painless and has zero downtime recovery. Although you may feel minimal warmth caused by the laser energy all over your lips during the procedure, it will be gone after the treatment.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED TO GET THE RESULTS?
To achieve full visibly plump and lighter lips, it is essential to have 3 to 4 treatments every 3 to 4 weeks. If you would like to maintain the lip plumpness, you may get touch up treatments once every year. For lightening of dark lips, results are permanent as long as you protect your lips from trauma and the sun’s harmful UV rays.
